Welcome to my world

During the holidays in July 2011 I decided to teach myself to crochet. Iwanted to keep a diary of my journey but I'm hopeless at writing so I thought I'd try blogging.
So why not join me on my journey, friends are always welcome and the kettles'always hot. So come on in pull up a chair and enjoy the ride.

Overflowing mail box

I love it when i come to my driveway and I can see that the mailbox is full. It means that my latest order from The Book Depository has arrived. I love the Book Depository the kids books are soooooooo cheap and I even get some books for myself. I do prefer to go to the library for myself as I read a book once and that's it. The boys however can read a book 100's of times. Any way today I was really happy because MY book arrived

I have seen this book referred to on a number of blogs but particularly SIBOL and I just fell in love with the squares so I decided that I would treat myself.
Dale also thought the overflowing mailbox was great as 4 new Guardians of Ga'hoole books arrived for him.
I have been working on some projects. This project I started soon after making the uncool mittens. The pattern is the same just made up into a blanket.

To finish of I first added a row of white. Because the edges were not straight I used a combination of SC HDC DC to fill it in and create a straight edge all around. I decided that this looked a Little boring so I started adding an extra border in the multi coloured yarn. Straight way it looks more finished and the edge I'm using is making it go wavy which is a nice effect.

While I was at the Stirling's I started making some tinny squares for a love heart blanket. I think that will be a while I'm waiting project :)

On another note, today I did the funniest thing. I was putting up a display in the library for remembrance day and I thought I was doing really well, I even took photos to send to a Library display blog that i follow. It wasn't till about #pm that I realised that I had made a BIG mistake

I think that's meant to be Remembrance Day :)
I put the words up without checking the spelling and that I had the correct letters. My spelling has never been my strong point but this was taking it to a whole new level. I laughed so much when I saw it. I made a few changes but will have to make a new M on Thursday, at the moment I'm using the extra E on it's side. Other than that I think the display looks great.
Well I had better go and cook dinner and tonight I hope to finish the baby blanket.
Bye

Baby baby.........

Today I made two more baby hats. I made another Baby Blue Hat. I found this yarn today while I was looking for stuff for my Remembrance day display for the library and loved it, so you know how it goes it just jumped into my basket.

After making this one I pulled out another pattern which I really liked. It is called Petals Newborn Hat I found it on Alli crafts she has some gorgeous patterns. This is my attempt at making this hat

I'm still trying to decide if I like it or not. I will take some photos in daylight which should turn out better.
Any way I'm of to the Stirling Range's on Wednesday with the year 6 class so I can take along some yarn and a pattern or two and whip something up in between whipping up the food for the hungry walkers.
Hooroy for now

Sunday night project

I'm a little over afghans. Not that I don't like doing them but they get a bit boring if that's all you do. So this evening I decided to do something quick and easy. I had a look through my patterns and come across this newborn baby hat (pattern here). It was so easy I can see myself making more of these and they take so little yarn it is a great way to use up left overs.
Cute little baby hat

The photos are a little fuzzy cause I took them at night. Maybe I'll take some more pics during the day. I also think I will have to find a cute doll to model some of my work.
Well that's all for now, I'm off to bed.
Sweet dreams

Holidays

Well we've been to Exmouth and have come back. It was different then we expected lots of driving and some very boring scenery but it was still great fun. I think the highlight of the holiday was snorkeling at Turquoise bay. It was a whole new world for us.

Turquoise Bay

The other place we loved was Warrdagga rock on Ninghan Station. we stayed here on our way home. It was so peaceful, but not quiet as the bird life was full on.

Part of Warrdagga Rock

Waterhole on the rock. This is where Maddy went for a swim

All good mountains/Rocks need a cairn
Apparently Wardagga Rock is the largest Monolith in Australia, even bigger then Ayres Rock though it doesn't stand out like Ayres Rock.
I also got my wish to see the wreath flower. David was wonderful in agreeing to make a detour to see this really cool flower/plant. It was the end of the season so they weren't at there best but still amazing.

Wreath Flower

Growing alongside the road
When you see these flowers in photo's you think they would be growing in a protected place but they actually grow where the ground has been disturbed so the road verge is were you often find them.

So did I do any crocheting? yes I did which is amazing seeing as i had one or two dogs on my lap most of the way, by the way they were very good travelers. I finished my granny square blanket. I started this early on as a project I could do while waiting for the boys. I had to finish at this size as I was running out of yarn.

Granny square blanket. The pink is cleaner than this but i took the photo at night so it looks a bit dirty

When I had finished I then started a mini igloo design blanket I got this pattern from crochet n' craft you can find the pattern here. I chose this pattern as it was really straight forward. I could do this and still talk to DJ and watch the scenery. I'm not sure what I think of it but I think it's growing on me

Well That's all for now.
